Giant Canyon Isopods have a broad, rugged appearance and spend plenty of time burrowing beneath leaf litter, cork bark, and decaying wood. Once established, they reproduce readily and can develop into a productive colony.

As natural decomposers, they feed on decaying leaves, wood, and other organic material, helping recycle nutrients within the substrate. They also readily accept supplemental isopod foods and occasional protein.

One of the advantages of Giant Canyons is their ability to tolerate somewhat drier conditions than many tropical isopods. A proper moisture gradient is still important—provide a consistently moist retreat while allowing a larger portion of the enclosure to remain relatively dry.
